                                                                      REGULAR MEETING

BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2024 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

OPEN THE MEETING

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President Schnoor presiding.

 

OPEN MEETINGS ACT

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Malia Nemecek and Sharon Meyer were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

ROLL CALL

A call of roll showed all members present:  Janis Baker, Don Beck, Dyann Bradbury, Mike Fischer, Aaron Lange and Laura Schnoor.

 

WELCOMING OF VISITORS

14 visitors

 

FACILITY DISCUSSION

The city board members along with Mayor Thomas were in attendance for a joint discussion with the board about the sale of the old high school.  RMDX was also involved in the discussion.

Elizabeth Valla and Martin Koopman addressed the board.

 

President Schnoor asked for a recess at 7:42 pm.  Meeting resumed at 7:45 pm.

 

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS

Principal Report:

  • School Tornado Drill – April 22nd at 10:00 am
  • LB 399 Statue Notebook Status – Americanism Bill
  • Scribner and Snyder Community Clean-up day – April 24th
  • 2nd Annual Fun Fest
  • Spring benchmark testing
  • Elementary field trips are planned and 4th quarter rewards are being finalized.
  • Grades 9-12 will be attending Men in Mission at LV on April 17th at 1:00 pm

 

AD Report

  • 10 members of the speech team qualified and attended the State meet in Kearney on March 22nd with Kadyn Wheelock and Hannah Ryun bringing home state medals.
  • ESport members on the League of Legends team qualified for the State Tournament at Concordia College on April 26th
  • NSAA Nebraska State College Multi-Activity Student Awards went to:  Izzy Carrier, Eli Enos, Marah Fischer, Emily and Nattlie Hull, Garrett and Gillian Hunke, Rylee Nemecek, Hannah Ryun, Kristen Schellenberg, Shandera Simpson, Ashley Stadt, McKenna Stewart, Kadyn and Kloey Wheelock.
  • State FFA and FCCLA took place this week.  Krista Beranek and Zoey Gathman earned state medals for their presentations at State FFA.  Izzy Carrier and Jillian Cunningham earned gold at State FCCLA and Calleigh Small earned Top Gold and will be going to Nationals.
  • Spring concert for 6th-12th grade – April 25th at 7:00 pm and PreK-5th grade – April 30th at 6:30 pm
  • District Track - May 8th
  • Honors Night – May 9th at 7:00 pm
  • Graduation – May 11th at 2:00 pm

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

-B & G committee meeting to discuss summer projects

 Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

ACTION ITEMS

 

APROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA

Bradbury moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.  This includes the approval of the agenda, March 13, 2024 Regular Meeting Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Report (attachment 2), General Fund expenses (attachment 3), Special Building Fund expenses (attachment 4) and placed them on file.  Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER, AND TAKE NECESSARY ACTION REGARDING SUBSTITUTE TEACHER PAY

Bradbury moved to approve substitute teacher pay at $165.00 per day.  Baker seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

STAFF RESIGNATIONS

Baker moved to accept the resignations, with regret, of Bernadette Bowling (attachment 5), Kelsey Piper (attachment 6) and Hanna Sedlacek (attachment 7).  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

CONSIDER AND ACT ON HIRING OF STAFF

Fischer moved to approve that Brandon Kowalski be hired as a 9-12 Social Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.  Baker seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

AMERICANISM & CIVICS COMMITTEE:

Discuss, consider, and take all necessary action regarding Social Studies Curriculum in regard to LB 399

Fischer moved to approve the Social Studies Curriculum and assure that the provisions of LB 399 are being met.  Bradbury seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Motion to Enter Executive Session

Bradbury moved to enter executive session at 8:24 pm with respect to real estate transactions and protection of the public interest.  Lange seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

Motion to Return to Regular Session

Lange moved to resume Regular Session at 8:44 pm.  Bradbury seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER, AND TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION ON THE SALE OF THE OLD HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING

Schnoor moved that the old high school building be sold to RMDX for $200,000.  Bradbury seconded and after discussion motion failed 2-yes 4-no.

 

ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:56 p.m.
