BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2022 @ 6:30 P.M.

Open the Meeting
Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.
Open Meetings Act
Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date. Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Brad Stithem, Sharon Meyer and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Roll Call
A call of roll showed all members present: Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Matt Kruse, Laura Schnoor, Cory Schlueter and Andrea Vacha.
Welcoming of Visitors
13 visitors
Elizabeth Valla introduced Oscar Duran, an Economic Development Specialist, which the City of Scribner hired and with the support of the School Board to partner in looking for ways to collaborate and seek feedback from stakeholders in regards to community and school engagement.
Classroom Presentation
Mrs. Gustafson – 5th grade teacher and 3 of her students, Jillian Cunningham, Ava Schreck and Emily Cunningham each gave a presentation on Famous Americans that have made History.
Informational Reports
Board Members – Laura mentioned on April 7th the “How to Make Meetings Matter” will be held in West Point at 5:00 p.m. Also mentioned the NRCSA meeting in Kearney next week. Buildings/Grounds and Transportation met on March 4th. Discussed HVAC Service Contract, Transportation, Freezer and summer projects.
Principal Stithem reported on the following items:
- K-8 teaching staff have decided on new Reading/Language Art Curriculum called “Intro Reading”.
- Pre-School/Kindergarten Round-up was held on Tuesday, March 8th.
- Musical will be performed on March 26th and 27th. Post Prom are hosting a brunch prior to the March 27th performance.
- The NSCA testing window is set for March 21-April 29. Juniors will be taking ACT test on March 22.
- The Men in Mission Organization will be hosting an assembly at SSCS on Friday, April 1st at 1:15 p.m. in the gym.
Director - Malia Nemecek – AD/Data/Student Services
- 12 Speech kids brought home the District Speech Champion Plaque. We have 8 state qualifiers- Gillian Hunke, Madison Mandel, Jillian Dames, Hannah Ryun, Ashley Stadt, Kadyn Wheelock, Eli Enos and Rylee Nemecek. State speech is on March 22nd in Kearney.
- FCCLA so far has 5 students who have qualified for nationals in San Diego – Jillian Dames, Kelby Dames, Maycie Streit, Eryn Hull and Rylee Nemecek.
- FFA BBQ Fundraiser will be held on March 22nd.
- The Quiz Bowl Team ended up 4th in the KTCH radio challenge. Conference Quiz Bowl is on March 28th in Pender.
- First track meet of the year is at Nebraska Wesleyan on March 19th.
- We have no students participating in Baseball this year.

Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences
Action Items
Approval of the Consent Agenda
Schlueter moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. This includes the approval of the agenda, the February 9 and 23, 2022 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3) and placed them on file. Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Discuss, Consider and take Necessary Action Regarding Scheduled Service Contract
Fischer moved to approve the Scheduled Service Contract with Trane as presented. Schlueter seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.
Consider and Act on Hiring of Staff
Fischer moved that Hannah Sedlacek, be hired as a K-6 Special Education Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Consider and take Necessary Action Regarding the Purchase of Reading and Language Arts Curriculum
Vacha moved to approve the purchase of Reading and Language Arts Curriculum from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as presented. Schlueter seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.
Discuss, Consider and Take Necessary Action to Approve Board Policies
Vacha moved that policies 204.10 – “Agenda” (Revised); 204.11 – “Meeting Minutes”; 204.13 – “Virtual Conferencing During an Emergency”; 611.07 – “Graduation Requirements”; 702.02 – “Budget Planning, Preparation, and Schedules”; 702.03 – “Budget Adoption Process” be approved as presented. Fischer seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.
Discuss, Consider and Take all Necessary Action in Regard to Disposal of School Property
Schlueter moved to approve the disposal of school property as per board policy 710.0. Beck seconded and after some discussion motion carried 6-yes.

Executive Session
Schlueter moved to enter executive session at 7:50 p.m. for the purpose of strategy session relating to current litigation. Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Motion to Return to Regular Session
Vacha moved to resume regular session at 8:06 p.m. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

Adjournment
There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 8:06 p.m.
