BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

Open the Meeting
Call the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.
Open Meetings Act
Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.
NOTE: The meeting was broadcast on Facebook live @sstrojans.org
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Roll Call
A call of roll showed all members present: Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Matt Kruse, Cory Schlueter, Laura Schnoor and Andrea Vacha
Welcoming of Visitors
President Schnoor welcomed the visitors. (5 visitors)
TRANE Presentation
TRANE Representatives presented to the board their plan to fix the HVAC System.
Informational Reports
Board Members – Laura mentioned the NASB Meetings in Area Workshop and the Law Conference on June 2-3.
Principal Stithem reported on the following items:
- Class registration is completed.
- Two new courses, Dual Credit English 4 and Computer Gaming Careers are being added to the Master Schedule.
- Elementary Data Retreats
- Mrs. Keene will be teaching K-12 summer school.
- Last day of school is Friday, May 14th. Thank you to the teachers and staff members for their hard work and dedication they showed during the 2020-21 school year.
Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:
- Facilities:
-Building and Grounds Committee met on April 13th
-Summer Projects
- Miscellaneous:
-Facebook Live – Continue to broadcast live.
-Board Contact List
-Invited Board to Tuesday’s cook out.
Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences
Action Items
Approval of the Consent Agenda
Fischer moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented which includes the approval of the agenda, the April 12, 2021 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3) and placed them on file. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Fischer moved to enter executive session at 8:12 pm for the purpose of potential future litigation. Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Schlueter moved to resume Regular Session at 8:51 pm. Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Staff Resignations
Vacha moved to accept the resignation, with regret, of Heather Peters. Beck seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Fischer moved to accept the resignation, with regret, of Kirk Kellough. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Hiring of Staff
Schlueter moved that Blake Dieckmann, be hired as a K-12 Physical Education Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Discussion: Blake Dieckmann is from Fremont and attended Wayne State College.
Vacha moved that Grace Synek, be hired as a 7-12 Mathematics Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Kruse seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Discussion: Grace Synek is from Kearney and has been teaching in Elba Public Schools for the last 2 years.
Technology Purchase
Fischer moved to approve technology purchases for the 2021-2022 school year as presented. Vacha seconded and motion carried 6-yes.
Discussion Items
Superintendent Evaluation – The board reviewed his evaluation.
Adjournment
There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, President Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 9:15 p.m.
