                                                                      REGULAR MEETING

BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8, 2024 @ 6:30 P.M.

SCRIBNER – SNYDER BAND BUILDING

 

 

OPEN THE MEETING

Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President Schnoor presiding.

 

OPEN MEETINGS ACT

Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date.  Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Malia Nemecek and Sharon Meyer were in attendance.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

ROLL CALL

A call of roll showed all members present:  Janis Baker, Don Beck, Dyann Bradbury, Mike Fischer, Aaron Lange and Laura Schnoor.

 

WELCOMING OF VISITORS

6 visitors

Public Comment:  Angie Brainard addressed the board regarding bus transportation.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS

Board Members

  • Discussed leadership workshop in Kearney
  • Board Graduation seating
  • Building and Grounds committee briefing

 

Principal Report:

  • Testing is complete for the school year
  • Academic/Athletes Honor Night – May 9th at 7:00 pm
  • Community clean-up was a success
  • Elementary PBIS reward will be on May 14th
  • High School PBIS reward will be on May 20th
  • Senior/Preschool walk and Graduation Practice will be held on May 9th.
  • Commencement is May 11th at 2:00 pm
  • Preschool Graduation is on May 14th at 2:30 pm
  • 2024-2025 – APL training for teachers and engagement strategies
  • Congratulations to McKenna Stewart for being a State Track Qualifier

AD Report

  • IMPACT testing is complete for the 2024-2025 school year
  • District Music was held on April 19th
  • FFA & FCCLA Banquets – Caleigh Small earned National placing for her STAR project and will be attending Nationals
  • Attended Wayne State Math Contest – Garrett Hunke brought home 2 medals
  • May 6th the FCCLA Chapter and Mrs. Drey volunteered in Norfolk at Mercy Meals
  • Retirement party for Julie Wuestewald on May 14th
  • Last Day of School – May 21st

 

Superintendent Peitzmeier reported on the following items:

  • Legislative Issues:

-Information regarding NCSA bills

-Accomplished Classified Salaries Expectation

  • Curriculum:

-Perkins

  • Facilities:

-$2,000 Safety and Security grant

-B & G committee met to discuss summer projects

-LENRD Grant

-Evacuation Drill set for May 17th 2:00 pm

  • Workshops/Meetings:

-Safety team at reunification drill in Fremont

-EHC Supt Meeting

-Perkins Advisory meeting

  • Miscellaneous:

-Classified Appreciation Brunch on April 29th

-Teacher Appreciation Week

 

 Updated the Board on Superintendent attendance/absences

 

ACTION ITEMS

 

APROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA

Bradbury moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.  This includes the approval of the agenda, April 10, 2024 Regular Meeting Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Report (attachment 2), General Fund expenses (attachment 3) and placed them on file.  Baker seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

CONSIDER AND ACT ON HIRING OF STAFF

Fischer moved to approve that Kelsey Piper be hired as a 7-12 Science Teacher for the 2024-2025 School Year, conditional on the terms of a contract being finalized between the District and her.  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

Bradbury moved to approve that Arlene Alsmeyer be hired as a half time PK-12 Media Specialist for the 2024-2025 School Year, conditional on the terms of a contract being finalized between the District and her.  Lange seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER AND POSSIBLY TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO APPROVE THE CREATION OF A DAY CARE PROGRAM

Lange moved to authorize administration to research the viability of adding a Day Care Program.  Baker seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER AND TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO APPOINT COMMITTEE MEMBER TO THE NEBRASKA EDUCATIONAL BUILDING ASSOCIATION

Bradbury moved to appoint Schnoor to the board of the Nebraska Education Building Association.  Baker seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-abstain (Schnoor)

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER, AND TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO APPROVE SUMMER PROJECTS

Baker moved to approve projects for the summer of 2024 as identified.  Fischer seconded and motion carried 6-yes.

 

DISCUSS, CONSIDER, AND TAKE NECESSARY ACTION TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF COMPUTERS FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

Lange moved to approve the purchase of computers for the 2024-2025 school year as presented.  Beck seconded and after discussion motion carried 6-yes.

ADJOURNMENT

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education of District #62, Dodge County, will be Wednesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m., in the Scribner–Snyder Band Room.  Agenda items are kept continually current in the superintendent’s office and may be inspected during regular business hours.
