REGULAR MEETING
BOARD OF EDUCATION DISTRICT #62
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2022 @ 6:30 P.M.

Open the Meeting
Call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Scribner-Snyder President, Laura Schnoor presiding.
Open Meetings Act
Notice of this meeting was properly published in a newspaper of general circulation by advance Public Notice with notice and advance agenda given to all members of the board prior to the meeting date. Scribner-Snyder personnel Joe Peitzmeier, Sharon Meyer, Brad Stithem and Malia Nemecek were in attendance.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Roll Call
A call of roll showed 5 members present: Don Beck, Mike Fischer, Andrea Vacha, Laura Schnoor and Cory Schlueter. Absent – Matt Kruse
Welcoming of Visitors

President Schnoor recessed the meeting at 6:32 p.m. to tour the Life Skills site at the Legion Building. President Schnoor reconvened the meeting at 6:53 p.m.
NASB Strategic Plan Presentation by Kari Stephens.
Informational Reports
Board Members –President Schnoor reported on the NASB State Conference she attended.
Principal Stithem reported on the following items:
- December 22 – End of Semester – 1:30 p.m. dismissal. Christmas break is December 22 – January 5
- In the process of selecting a new Math Curriculum
- Thank you to Mrs. Ryun and the FFA students on sponsoring the Annual Christmas Food Drive.
- Thank you to Mr. Poessnecker for the wonderful job of preparing the students for the Elementary Christmas Concert. Great Job again this year.
- SSCS is hosting a Classroom Christmas Cookie Convention on Thursday, December 15 for Parents and Grandparents
- Season Greetings – We hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas break

Action Items
Approval of the Consent Agenda
Vacha moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented with excusing Matt Kruse from the meeting. This includes the approval of the agenda, the November 9, 2022 Minutes, Treasurers Report (attachment 1), Financial Reports (attachment 2), the actual General Fund expenses (attachment 3), and placed them on file. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Vacha moved to approve board policies: Section 300 “Administration” as reviewed. Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Schlueter moved to approve board policies 302.05 “Superintendent Evaluation” and 303.05 “Administrative Duties” as revised. Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Vacha moved to continue the school insurance coverage with EMC through Swanson Insurance. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Schlueter moved to accept the resignation, with regret, of Brad Stithem (attachment 4). Fischer seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse). The Board wished Brad well in his retirement and thanked him for his years of service to SSCS.
Discussion items
- Return to Learn Plan – 6-month review in January
- Superintendent Evaluation tabled until January meeting
- Annual Audit
- Special Presentation – Board Member’s Appreciation Award to Malia Nemecek, Cory Schlueter and Andrea Vacha. Thank you for the years of service on the board.
Executive Session
Schlueter moved to enter executive session at 8:30 p.m. for the purpose of current litigation, strategy session with respect to collective bargaining, and discussing personnel when necessary to prevent needless injury to the reputation of a person and for the protection of the public interest. Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Schlueter moved to resume Regular Session at 9:45 p.m. Vacha seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Schlueter moved to approve the negotiated agreement between the District and the SSEA for 2023-24 as presented with a base salary increase of $1,160 setting the base salary at $40,000. Beck seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Vacha moved to offer a contract to Malia Nemecek as the PK-12 Principal. Schlueter seconded and motion carried 5-yes, 1-absent (Matt Kruse).
Adjournment
There being no further business on the agenda of this meeting, president Laura Schnoor adjourned the meeting at 9:50 p.m.
